The domain of Font de Mai: in the footsteps of Provençal cultures and traditions. The Domaine de la Font de Mai is a vast domain of 100 hectares, three centuries old, nestled at the foot of the Garlaban massif. It is located a few kilometers from the town of Aubagne.
You can visit its Provençal country house, its old farm converted into an eco-museum and its outbuildings. At the Domaine de la Font de Mai you will discover the traditions of peasant life by following its interpretive trail. You will learn the secrets of silkworm breeding, water saving and the use of restanques, discover the cultivation of olives and vines as well as the breeding of bees in the enclosures.
In this huge garden, the cultures of yesterday and today co-exist to highlight the Provençal know-how of working the land. Also explore the naturalist's scrubland where you will discover many species of plants and trees that inhabit these arid lands typical of Provence.
Hikes in the Garlaban massif from the Domaine de la Font de Mai
At the top of the estate, take the panoramic path which will take you to the start of the marked hiking trails in the Garlaban hills. Allow about 2 hours to reach the top of the massif and enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Pays D'Aubagne. Guided tours are also organized to discover the Garlaban massif, inquire at the Aubagne Tourist Office.
